Hammam 101

Hammam 101

Soma houses Calgary’s ONLY Hammam.

Unfamiliar with the term? Let us gladly school you in Hammam 101.

Here are a few things you need to know… The Hammam is one of Turkey’s oldest bathing rituals. This ancient tradition begins with a foam wash, exfoliating sea salt scrub and afterwards a rinse and ends with a full-body moisturizing massage. Traditionally this would begin in a range of sauna rooms, but Soma has taken this traditional treatment and given it a modern twist. The whole treatment is performed on a heated stone table sitting at 40 degrees Celsius.

The Hammam is known to be a silent healer, each component playing a vital role in internal and external healing. The Hammam is known to increase the internal body temperature as well as activating the immune system. Externally exfoliating removes layers of dead skin cells allowing moisture to penetrate deeper making your skin hydrated and fresh.

Why should you exfoliate your skin?

Do you moisturize your skin and hours later your legs or arms still feel dry? In fact the skin is the largest organ of the body. On average you have a new set of skin a month. Calgary’s weather is dry and inconsistent, this means your skin requires more hydration to avoid dry, cracking, flaking and dry skin build up. In other words exfoliating your skin regularly helps new and healthy skin grow. Applying moisturizer and lotion to healthy skin penetrates allowing for longer hydrated skin.

A few things to know when booking any Hammam Treatment.

All you need to bring is a bathing suit (one-piece or two) and a change of clothes. Avoid shaving, waxing or LHR treatments 24 hours prior to your treatment. There is a exfoliating portion might cause irritation.

Being Calgary’s ONLY Hammam is exciting. Offering Calgarians a feel of a ancient cultural tradition that would otherwise result in traveling 9,564 km to experience. For the month of August we are offering our Soma signature Grande Hammam treatment for $99.
